Your Questions Answered
(or at least some of them!)

BEFORE GETTING TO THE VILLA

Which airport is nearest to Kalkan?
Dalaman International, about a 90 minute drive from Kalkan

Can you recommend an airline flying to Dalaman?
Depends on where you live, but anywhere in the south we'd recommend Thomas Cook flying out from Gatwick. Our changover day is a Friday, Thomas Cook have a good range of Friday flight options. Please see "Flights and Transfers" for links to airlines

Any tips for flying into Turkey?
You'll need to buy a visitors visa when you arrive at Dalaman, they cost £10 each and last for three months. It's useful and less stressful to have the appropriate number of £10 notes handy for when you land

Any currency tips?
Best to get your Turkish Lira before you arrive. When you're in Kalkan the restaurants and shops are happy to accept Euros,Sterling and US Dollars - but, beware, you'll invariably loose out on the somewhat random adhoc exchange rates - and you may well have had a few glasses or overheated in the sun, so you'll likey to be less than vigilant than usual. It's best to always pay in Turkish Lira and just avoid any exchange rate stress. There are a lot of banks in Kalkan (at the top end of Kalkan, near to Villa Angel and Angelo) all with ATM's, so it's easy to top up your currency stock at any time

What should we take with us?

Advise you take a selection of your favourite DVD's and CD's, a couple of UK  adapter flights would also be useful, and please don't forget your mobile phone as the villas don't have phones

What shouldn't we take with us?
No need to take any towells and use up that valuable airline luggage allowance - bath and beach towells are provided in the villas. It's better and cheaper to buy such items as mosquito spray, suntan lotion, shampoo in the local shops when you arrive

Is there satellite television at the villas?
No, from bitter experience they break down continually. However, you'll easily find many cafes in the village that have satellite tv if you're suffering withdrawal symptoms and perhaps need to catch an important match or other sports event. Each villa does have a TV along with a DVD player

Is there a CD player?
Happily,yes

Is there an I Pod decking station?

Sadly,no

Is there a safe in the villa for valuables?
Yes, each villa has a built in safe for your passports, money, jewelry, tickets etc

How close is Angel to Angelo?
Very close, just a minute or two away - down some steps, around the pool and you're there. They are perfect for two families wanting to holiday together but also liking their own privacy and their own front door

Is the swimming pool at Angel and Angelo shared?
Yes it is. But the pool is one of the largest (if not the largest pool outside the hotel compexes) in Kalkan, it even has an expansive section in the shade, under ground so you keep out of the hot midday sun. Theres a jacuzzi in this section too. There is plenty of space. It is very peaceful and quiet at these villas, it has never been a problem in any way

Are the swimming pools heated?
No, this is not needed. The sun provides enough heating. The temperature of the pools are always pleasantly refreshing

How close is Dream to Star?
Again very close. Dream is located just above Star connected with a short path. As with Angel and Angelo they are perfect for (larger family groups) wishing to holiday together. There is a third brand new villa opening in June 2010 called Villa Blue - the three villas are all interconnected with paths, but also retain their own privacy. The best of both worlds

How close are the hillside villas from Kalkan?
They are only a short five minute drive down to the centre of Kalkan. But they are a little too far to walk, certainly too far on the walk back up the hill in the sunshine. We recommend hiring a car for the hillside villas, or using a taxi

Is there a shop near to the hillside villas?
Yes, about a 100 yards up the road you'll find a small grocery shop selling freshly baked bread and the essentials

Is it possible to have an additional single bed put into one of the villas for our holiday?
Yes, this can be arranged for you. There's plenty of space in all the villas for an additional bed to be provided for you

WHEN YOU'RE AT THE VILLA

Is it safe to drink the tap water?
I wouldn't! It's OK for cleaning your teeth but it's advisable to play safe and buy large bottles of water from one of the many shops around

Is there an information booklet in the villas?
Yes, you'll find an information booklet about the villa, it includes emergency contact numbers for a local doctor, dentists, pharmacy. Hopefully you won't need these numbers. If there is any information you need but can't find please contact our agent, Tamer Kose (he will introduce himself to you when you're at the villa), he will help you. He is only ever a phone call away

What do we do if we have a problem at the villa?
Call my agent, Tamer Kose. Problems do sometimes occur, thats life (even on a wonderful holiday) but Tamer will help in any way he can.His contact details are on this website (please see Angelic Local Partners). He will also give you his contact details when at the villa. If any breakages occur, again sadly a fact of life please inform Tamer immediately. If something in the villa is not working properly, again inform Tamer, he will sort it out

Are there electricity and water failures and shortages in kalkan?
Sadly yes. But they do not occur very frequently. If there are failures or a water shortage please be patient, it will not last long, normal service will be resumed as quickly as possible.

What do we do with our rubbish?
There are nearby places for the rubbish to be deposited, ask Tamer to point out where your rubbish should go

Is there a hairdryer and an iron at the villas?
Yes to both as well as an ironing board for good measure

Are there sunloungers outside around the pool for our use?
Yes, all the villas are provided with wooden sunloungers, complete with cushions

Can we flush the toilet paper?
Sorry but no! The toilet pipes are narrow diameter in Turkey, so please deposit the toilet paper in the toilet bins. Each toilet has a bidet tap built in

How often is the villa cleaned and the linen changed?
This is done once a week. However, if you require more frequent cleaning and linen changes please contact Tamer, who can arrange this for you. There will be an additional reasonable payment to be made directly to Tamer

Is it possible, if we want, to have a caterer cook and serve a special meal for us in the villa?
Of course, this is not a problem. If you have any particular catering needs, for example a large family celebration dinner that you'd prefer to have at your villa please contact Tamer while you're in Kalkan who will make the arrangements and agree the cost with you

Are there take aways and home delivery meals available in Kalkan?
Yes, there are a surprising number of restaurants that can do this. Just ask around. Usually meals delivered to your villa are served on real crockery (no foil sealed cardboard boxes) - very stylish

Is the air conditioning effective?
Yes, there's excellent air conditioning in all the bedrooms and main living areas. But please switch off the aircon when you're not in the room or when you out of the villa. If the aircon is left on for prolonged unnecessary periods they can 'overheat', apart from being absurdly expensive and wasteful

Does it rain in the summer?
Very rarely and only if you're unlucky! If it does please try to bring any outside cushions in before they get soaked

Can it get windy?
This is possibly more common than any summer rain. You sometimes get warm gusts. If you're around when this happens please collapse any umbrellas and wind in any sunblinds - if you're staying at Angel or Star

How do we get the villa keys?
Tamer will give you keys on arrival at the villa. He will also answer any immediate unanswered questions you may have about your villa

Please Note : At Villa Angel there are four lovely plants on the lounge terrace. They get very thirsty. If you're staying at Angel can you please water these plants, they need a bucket of water every five days or so. There is a bucket in the outside cupboard on the lounge terrace. Thank you - on behalf of the plants!

WHILE YOU'RE IN KALKAN

Is there a local market in Kalkan?
Yes, it's held every Thursday from about 9am throughout the day. It's a large bustling market selling about everything! You'll find it at the top end of Kalkan, on the main road out of Kalkan on the way up to Kalkans only garage. It's about 200 yards up the hill from Villas Angel and Angelo. It's a good idea to visit the market first, have a look around before buying from the local shops - you may well find similar items but at a lot less lira. The favourite expression you'll hear being shouted there is 'cheap as chips'!

What is the tipping policy?
The usual 10% is sufficient, if you're happy with the service received

What do you advise regarding daytrips?
Please click through to 'Out and About' on this website. Of the absolute must dos I recommend at least one very wonderful lazy day on a gulet going around Kalkan Bay. Also a trip to Patara beach - it's so much more than just a beach, as you go through an ancient Roman city on the way to seven miles of dunes which have a backdrop of the Taurus mountains behind. If you're particularly lucky you may even see some giant turtles - Patara is one of the few official turtle conservation breeding sites along the Mediterranean. The Sunday Times has recently scored Patara as one of the best six beaches in the worls - it is that special. Finally an all time favourite of ours is the Lycian and Roman city of Xanthos, here you can see exquisite Roman mosaics and a well preserved gladitorial amphitheatre.Tamer Kose can help advise and make any specific bookings for you

Is there a Post Office?
Yes, very central, just down the road from Angel and Angelo

Can you recommend any particular restaurants?
To be honest it is far more fun finding out by experiencing them! There are so many to choose from, you'll be spolit for choice. If you really want some specific recommendations please email Angelic Villas, we're be happy to help - but they are a personal choice only. Generally speaking and this won't come as a surprise, the closer you get the harbour front, the more you'll pay

What is Kalkans local beach like?
It's a narrow shelved stoney beach. But I think this is a virtue, as it is usually fairly quiet and you don't get large crowds there. For a modest charge you can hire sunloungers and an umbrellas. There are restaurants and cafes just behind the beach. It's fun to watch the world go by (and the gulets coming out of the harbour) and for swimming theres even a diving platform about 50 yards from the beach. I like the beach! Its a great place just to rest and chill out at. For sandy beaches theres the sublime Patara beach to the west (about a 20 minute drive to the west) and the wonderful picture postcard Kaputas turquoise beach(15 minute drive) to the east on the Kas road

Is Kas worth a visit?
A definate yes. It'll take you about 25 minutes along a truly spectacular coastal road, it's breathtaking. Kas itself as a destination is well worth your time. It is more of a real Turkish town than Kalkan, it is less touristy. It has some great shops and terrific restaurants - thetres a lovely laid back relaxed feel to Kas. Like Kalkan it has a harbour. It is a little quieter and perhaps more relaxed than Kalkan

Are the taxis expensive?
Not compared to the UK, they are reasonably priced. The taxi stand is just down the road from Angel and Angelo into the centre of Kalkan

What are the local buses like?
This is a cheap, interesting and fun way to travel. Buses (or dolmus in Turkish) run frequently all day to all the main local places (Patara, Xanthos, Kas etc.) The bus station is just up the road from Angel and Angelo

Can we hire a car?
Yes, this is easy to arrange. Just contact Tamer Kose who will sort out the car of your choice (the range appear to be mostly Fiats though!) and have the car delivered to your villa. All the villas have car ports. You can hire by the day or by the week - and of course Tamer can get a good price for you

What time are the shops open until?
You'll have no problem with opening hours. In the peak season during summer most shops open until midnight, this is also true for the food shops

Can we get a Turkish bath?
Yes, a good idea. Theres a very good Turkish Bath called Atlantis which can be found very near to Angel and Angelo - it is next to the Yali supermarket

What about a Turkish shave?
Another good idea, a real treat for the guys. Don't shave for a few days (or maybe time the shave for the day before you come home) and have a close Turkish shave with a cut-throat razor! It's an experience! You'll find various barbers around - or ask Tamer for a barber he recommends

What is the best food supermarket in Kalkan?
My personal choice would be Yali, just up the hill from Angel and Angelo on the left hand side on the road to the garage. You can't miss it. Yali have a wide range of products with a friendly smiling service

Can you recommend a really good cake shop or cafe in Kalkan?
I can. Theres a great cake shop for a sweet treat called Nur. It can be found opposite Yali. So after doing a villa shop why not treat yourself to a perfect cake  and a Turkish coffee before unloading your goods at the villa

Are there internet cafes in Kalkan?
Yes, just ask around and you'll find one to go online from

WHEN LEAVING THE VILLA

Do you have any advise when we leave the villa?
You can approxiamate the timing of your transfer back to Dalaman for about four hours before your flight is due to lift off. This covers the journey back and the required two hour check in. Can you please make sure you switch the aircon off. Thanks

What should we do if there have been some breakages while staying at the villa?
Accidents happen, please contact Tamer Kose immediately about any breakages

Is there anything else we need to know?
Yes. When you're travelling back to Dalaman you may well be asked if you want to stop at one of the large garage/shop/restaurants on the way. These are fairly expensive for those last minute presents - compared to the Thursday market and indeed the shops in Kalkan. It is always better to sort out all present buying (the ubiquitous Turkish Delight) before you leave. Definately avoid buying anything at Dalaman airport, it is absurdly expensive

Is there a VIP lounge at Dalaman?
Yes, but it's not really worth paying the extra charge for it.
